Visual Support Increases Independence
Funded Aug 15, 2024Thank you for your donation of materials for my classroom. The donation of funds for a lamination machine and film, and flashcards and velcro are so appreciated! My teaching includes working with students who are non-verbal and/or experience difficulties in self-regulation and/or independently completing multi-step tasks and assignments.
Your donation has enabled me to create visual supports for students, which has helped to increase independent learning in a fun and colorful way! The flashcards, games and manipulatives are so popular and draw students in, with their bright colors, and hands-on opportunities. I have created a wealth of student games and interactive cards and activities with the materials provided. Laminating all of these materials will preserve them and enable the students to use them over and over again for months and years to come. For one non-verbal student, creating a job list with drawers for individual activities has enabled this child to complete independent work at their pace and level of comfort. This is such a great step!
Thank you again. Your thoughtfulness, generosity and support are very much appreciated!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Aguilar

Funded Aug 14, 2024Thank you for your donation to my project. These materials have enabled me to build a cooperative learning center in my classroom. The students were very excited to see the variety of activities that were available for use in the social skills center in our classroom. The Big Joe chairs were a great hit, as students use them in a reading corner, sharing favorite books and playing partner games.
Using the STEM materials has been a very successful way to increase student communication as they play games and complete shared activities together. All the materials are stored in bins on the shelves. Initially, my students played side-by-side, each with their own bin, as sharing is a hard concept. Over time, they have learned that having a friend and playing together is much better and more rewarding than having all of the blocks (or other materials) in a bin to themselves. They have grown much over the first months of this school year.
Because of your generosity, I feel that my students will be better prepared to work through a variety of situations, as they are increasing their ability to build social skills.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Aguilar
