Without a doubt, clay and paint are the favorite mediums of my young artists. This year, due to Covid-19, there are some extra challenges in art class. Supplies must be cleaned between classes and supplies cannot be shared between students. The constant cleaning does cause art supplies to deteriorate more quickly. Also, many students are from homes of low socioeconomic status and don't have the means to bring in their own art supplies. We have transitioned to art on a cart. This makes mediums like traditional clay a bit tricky. Crayola Model Magic is a great, mess-free alternative to clay. Students will still have the experience of creating a sculpture without the mess. Watercolor pencils will be easy to transport and sanitize. Students will experience and experiment with a new medium and work on fine motor skills. Watercolors are easy to transport, versatile, and allow students to work on their painting technique. Due to the constant sanitizing, they do not last as long as they normally would. Refills of the watercolors will ensure that more students get to experience watercolor.
