These materials will provide the students in the Autism program the ability to have resources at hand to manipulate. The majority of these students are learners who require items to be easy to manage, engaging, and meaningful. Learning by practicing the in different ways and settings allows the students to begin to generalize their skillsets. The materials available to each student allows them to build confidence and independence to demonstrating the learning they are engaging in. It is my hope that by providing these to the students, they will become thoroughly engaged in their own learning. This engagement will boost their self esteem and deepen their desire to learn more. Seeing the joy on a students face when they are able to demonstrate/communicate their individual learning is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a Special Education Teacher.
