A multicultural library will enable my students to gain a better understanding of not just their culture, but the culture of others. By learning about different cultures, students gain a deeper understanding of each other and build stronger relationships. As a teacher it is imperative that we prepare our students to be globally competitive in the 21st century which means that students need to learn to be culturally sensitive. Learning about other cultures can help foster empathy and acceptance among all students while promoting self-respect. Multicultural literature helps students to understand that regardless of where you live in the world, there are many traits that unite us all.
