  • That's Cool!

    Funded Sep 20, 2023

Thank you so much for your support. The students are loving all of the new materials. When the boxes arrived it was like Christmas morning. Now anytime there's a box, they ask if they got new toys.

The pans, coffee pot, and toaster are big hits in the house. They play coffee shop all the time now. The magnet pads are very popular whether for drawing or practicing letter formation. The acrylic blocks and houses are currently the hottest toy in the room.

I love watching their little brains work to figure out how to make patterns in the windows with the acrylic blocks and listen to them role playing social situations in the kitchen. It is crazy how one toy can lend itself to so many learning opportunities.

Thank you for gifting us so many learning opportunities.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morgan

  • All the Feels

    Funded May 10, 2023

Thank you so much for the sensory table. The children have enjoyed making cupcakes with pom poms. It has been terrific practice for color identification, sorting, fine motor skills, and counting. I've "eaten" many birthday cupcakes at this point. We've used used candles to help us visualize older and younger, plus figure out how old we will be at our next birthday.

Next, we will be using beans and construction vehicles. The boys are very excited for this switch. Practicing scooping and pouring is a very important skill developed during the preschool years. It teaches students about volume and is the basis of learning to measure.”

  • But Why? Preschool Science Center

    Funded Mar 21, 2023

Thank you so much for the science center resources. They have been a big hit in our classroom. The first day back from spring break I put out all of the new resources. The kids explored and asked such good questions. The fossils were very fun to look at under the microscope. It lead to lots of questions about dinosaurs and sharks. The body of organs had multiple "surgeries" to fix his various ailments. The children were so engaged in play, they had no idea they were learning.

Students are spending more time at science than I have seen them all year. The microscope seems to draw them to the center. It led to the discovery of our thumbprints. Somebody asks to listen to my heart with the new stethoscopes almost daily. We started our plants and animal unit. I challenged the students to put the life cycle pieces in order and they did a wonderful job problem solving. Your support is leading to some great learning experiences. Thank you!”

  • Give Me a Sign!

    Funded Apr 28, 2022

The students have started learning sign language using the new curriculum. We started with outdoor signs to go with our camping unit. Several of the older students mastered all of the signs in that unit already. Everybody's favorite sign is bug. They giggle anytime we sign it.

The students were super excited to learn sign language. We now recognize when somebody is "talking with their hands." They were all engaged in signing along with the video, signing the song, and even adding signs to the songs we already knew. We watched a song done by a little girl that was deaf. All at once they started saying, "She's talking with her hands just like us!"

Since it is the end of the year, we are just testing the waters with the sign language curriculum. Next year, I plan to start from the beginning of the year and work through all of the units. We will learn songs and poems to help us practice our new sign language skills. I can't wait to see where the kids will be after a full year of practice.”

  • Let There Be Light!

    Funded Oct 28, 2021

The students were so excited to get a new light table. They came in and saw the giant box on the table and were over the moon. They immediately knew that it was the light table. While it was being assembled they gathered around and "helped" our custodian. They couldn't wait to start using it. We ended up plugging it in before it had legs just to see how it worked.

Our first light table activity was building igloos with clear cups. It remained the coveted center for several weeks. They would build igloos and add people and arctic animals to their creations. It lead to many great discussions about the homes of people and animals in the arctic. Now we are using light bright pieces and clear shower rings to practice sorting and counting. They keep asking what light toy we are going to do next.

We are going to explore color mixing, patterns, ramps, plants, and more with our light table this spring. The kids and I both appreciate your support. Your donation has made math and science concepts fun to explore for my little learners. Thank you!”

  • The 2nd Graders of the Round Table

    Funded Jul 10, 2020

Unfortunately after getting funded I had to switch to being a virtual teacher. I was still overjoyed when my giant box arrived. This year my table serves as my workspace, a recording studio, and a meeting place for my team teachers. I spend school days at the table having virtual meetings with students and recording video lessons for them. It has served as a wonderful place to record and edit video lessons.

I can't wait for it to be filled with students in years to come. It is well built and will hold up for many years and serve many students.”

  • I Want Real Books Too!

    Funded Mar 2, 2020

Thank you so much for donating books. The children loved them. We did a unit that required the students to read a book series. Many students were not ready for chapter books or traditional series books. The books we recieved from you made several very happy reading groups.

Instead of feeling left out while reading copy-paper books, all of the students had a real book in their hands. These students were also given an option about which series they wanted to read. When it came time to read our series books, students were excited and raced to the bins to get their book for the day. Thank you for putting smiles on their faces and helping me to foster a love a reading.

With these books students learned reading skills such as prediction, character development, and motivation. The students learned to predict what would happen in book two or three based upon what happened in book one. They also learned how characters develop and change throughout the series. These culminated into figuring out why characters acted the way they did. They had to predict how the character would act based upon what they already knew about the character and then figure out why they character would do that. It was very tricky, but the series books donated to us made this task much easier for both the students and for me. We greatly appreciate your help in creating avid readers.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morgan

These five series are perfect for struggling readers. In second grade, students are placed into book clubs to read series books. The students still reading at a kindergarten level often receive paper books printed offline. Splat the Cat, Clark the Shark, the Berenstain Bears, Biscuit, and Paddington will inspire and help provide real books to all second grade readers. This project gives them real books like the more advanced readers. Students will be divided into clubs where they will read, discuss, and enjoy a series of books with a group of similar peers. These book series will be used during book club time to inspire a love of reading.
