The first unit I teach to my 7th graders focuses on the essential question: “When people need to make a choice between individuality and conformity, how do they make that choice, and how do they know if it is the right one to make?”. My students learn the difference between individuality and conformity by reading and analyzing the dystopian society in “The Giver” by Lois Lowry.
My yearly classroom budget is $100, which is mainly used for basic supplies for my classroom. Having new copies of “The Giver” would help build more excitement from the students about reading the book because they will not have to worry about them falling apart. My classes love reading this book and I would hate to have to a classic that they love be replaced with something else. Please consider donating to help out my students.
