It is essential to my students' academic and social growth that they have tables where they can collaborate with one another. Research shows that students learn better when they work together. Right now my students are using individual desks that are worn out and marked-up to complete their independent work. Students often shove papers inside their desks and then struggle to find them later in the day. With the addition of these tables, students will be forced to learn organizational skills by placing their belongings in certain areas in the classroom. Finally, the desks that are currently in our classroom are bulky and take up a large amount of space. With the addition of these tables, students will be able to move around the room more comfortably. My hope is that these tables serve as symbol of collaboration, organization, and comfort. These tables will be the foundation upon which students can learn the skills they will need to be successful later in life, as they fulfill their dreams.
