There is undeniably something special about reading. For brief moments of time, books release us from our own reality. I want to use these books to immerse my students into the Civil Rights Movement. I want to take them beyond their world and into someone else's. Whether it be a slave, Union soldier, or Civil Rights leader, I want them to experience life through the eyes of another. With these new books, my students will be able to understand what it was like to live during the Civil Rights Movement. They will learn the hardships that were overcome, and the long struggle for freedom faced by many. This project will help my students grow stronger in reading, as well as enrich their experiences.
