Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) typically require tools to self-regulate and materials that will activate the senses. Neurotypical children, with enough support, can quietly sit through a read-aloud. Using the Very Hungry Caterpillar Storytelling Kit, my students will be encouraged to follow along and utilize their fine motor skills by placing the magnetic pieces on the board! I've chosen items that will encourage my students to use all of their senses! Flexible seating will allow my students to self-regulate while being on task. Having a refrigerator and microwave in my classroom is especially important for any student that has diet restrictions, allergies, or is working on feeding therapy. Additionally, I'll be able to either heat up or cool down different sensory toys. The kids love that! I will make use of every single item in my project. The greatest skill of any teacher is to make use of their materials!
