Reading is one of the most important skills to learn in school. At Douglas Elementary, our goal is to encourage a love for reading! In third grade, all children love fairy tales, so we combined reading and writing to create a unit where students create fractured fairy tales. Schools do not always have the budget to supply resources that teachers need to teach in an engaging, effective way. The problem is that our school has a great library, but often while we are teaching this unit, the resources we need are being shared among several other grade levels. When students don't have authentic resources to explore, the unit is less effective and less engaging. This project will help us teach fractured fairy tales in a motivating and captivating way that builds excitement for reading and writing.
