Donnalyn Miller, author of the Book Whisper says, "“This is how I show my students that I love them - by putting books in their hands, by noticing what they are about." The students I teach do not come from print-rich environments so having a full classroom library is essential to developing important reading skills. Research supports that having a classroom library benefits students in countless ways. When books are in close proximity to students, studies show that time spent reading in the classroom goes up as much as 60 percent. Students should, and need, access to varied and engaging children's literature. The more time a child spends reading, the better reader they will become. In my classroom, these books will be used, loved, and cherished by my students.
