Young students love to sing, but they struggle learning the words to new songs. When students enter the music room, they know to go and sit in their music spots on our music rug awaiting the musical attention they so rightly deserve. However, when it comes time to the curriculum being used we are stuck in the past. Being from the mid to late 1990s, this curriculum comes with a class set of books and a set of CDs to listen to. Students have almost no visuals to see what they are learning or singing. We use an old laptop as our classroom computer to display the few PDFs we have. The laptop is hooked up to the smart board and we are able to write on the board using the Smart board markers, but the laptop often freezes up causing us to have to come back to it later or go onto a different task completely. A new class computer will help these students learn effortlessly when following along with the activities on the board. We are saving up The new curriculum we are saving up for will play music while words on the board are highlighted as they are sung. This lets students follow along and learn the words quicker allowing them to have more fun learning. This new curriculum will also have musical games that require to students to come up to the smart board and touch it to move objects on the screen. Our current computer typically crashes and has to be completely restarted at least once a week. A new computer will avoid crashing in the middle of the lesson and will keep the students engaged throughout the whole lesson.
