My current school district has implemented a hybrid model for learning. This model allows teachers to ensure that students are receiving the same lesson material in different ways to accommodate distinct learning styles. Teachers instruct three twenty minute lessons in small groups. Three stations occur simultaneously, an independent computer station, collaborative station, and direct instruction. The model has increased students performance and made learning more engaging with a self paced learning development. The learning styles of students make all schools diverse and teachers as well as school leaders recognize these learning styles to differentiate. My schools adoption of the hybrid model has placed demands on teachers from school leaders to differentiate ever lesson. I have been intrigued with Dr. Gardner's theory of multiple intelligence, which confirms that teachers should organize a classroom to accommodate all intelligence. When teachers do not differentiate they are inequitably disadvantaging students with a different dominant intelligence. Some students are spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, verbal-linguistic, musical, natural, intrapersonal, or interpersonal learners. These qualities make students diverse in learning .Differentiating instruction helps increase access to learning for all students. Having the ability to explore concepts at a readiness level instead of a grade or age standard, will increase a child sense of accomplishment, raising self-esteem, and increasing motivations to try new concepts. Often times, when a person feels a connection to a topic or subject, the interest and attention that task will receive will be greater. Having access to materials like standing desks, seat sacks, and a tech tubs allows a person to make meaningful connections and will increase attention and engagement with that topic. When all learners can connect and feel inclusive in the learning process, success can increase and be shared by all stakeholders. With your help in purchasing these materials I can meet the needs of my diverse student group.
