Schools Are Alive with the Sound of Music!
Funded May 19, 2019Thank you very much for helping me educate my students through music in my classroom! Your generous donation of new recorders has allowed my students to study an instrument for the first time. When the package arrived, they couldn't wait to observe and play their recorders. Many of my students talked about the differences between the flute and recorder. They have been applying their knowledge of patterns and various pitches from familiar songs and poems by playing notes on the recorder. Our next step would be to advance from this area by playing simple songs with the music notation they learn. They can't wait to have a recital!! Thanks again for helping me extend music education in my curriculum!”

Funded Aug 8, 2019Thank you so much for providing my students and me with excellent resources that support reading progress! My students enjoy reading and timing their fluency passages, playing vocabulary folder games, and doing reading comprehension activities during independent and collaborative work times. Formal periodic assessments and my class observations show the positive impact these tools have on my students' success. We were all excited when our gift package arrived! Students took out each item investigating how they can learn how to increase their reading levels while having fun! They plan to proceed through the levels to help them achieve reading mastery!!”

Funded May 16, 2019Thank you for partnering with me in teaching my students about empathy through literature. My students learned about how to be a good friend by showing empathy toward others in need or those going through challenges. I have read each book aloud, while students enjoyed individual and partner studies in character analysis. All my students appreciated each story as they related to how characters felt in their unique situations. What my class enjoyed the most was participating with Readers' Theater. One student said, "When we act out the stories, it brings the characters to life. We can feel what they feel even more and know how to help them."”

Linking to the World Around Us
Funded May 15, 2019Using TFK resources allowed me to teach reading comprehension by studying text structure, visual text features, within nonfiction text. Students learned concepts in Social Studies, Health, and Science. Through analysis and academic conversations, they deepened their understandings. My English Language Learners benefit from preteaching of vocabulary, studying visual content, and accessing prior knowledge before reading. Students read in small- and whole group-settings. All students enjoy accessing core content as they relate to the seasons. For example, they learned about pumpkins in Science, Math, and Art thematically. Thank you!!”
