  • A Sea of Books for Little Readers

    Funded Oct 10, 2021

Reading this year is needed more than ever! My firsties are excited to actually pick up a book for the first time. I want them to stay excited about reading and now I have the tools to do that 😊 I think they will truly enjoy picking out their own books and listening to our magic tree house books.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Carr

  • We Don't Eat Our Decodable Readers!

    Funded Dec 17, 2019

I don't think I ever properly thanked you for funding this project. These tools have still been used just one student at a time with proper sanitation. Each time one of my yoga balls or stools have been pulled out students have been very very excited and it has helped them wiggle their body but stay on task. During guided reading my students get to bounce and stay focused on the book and what is going on in the book instead of how they are sitting in a seat. Next steps is I would use these items to help students with anxiety or staying in their area. With new regulations these tools can really benefit students who have had so much room at home and now will only have about 3 feet. This still lets them move but stay stationary. A lot of students will get to benefit from these tools.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Carr

Picture your guided reading rotation with nine children at a small U-shaped table all trying to use the table to write their comprehension answers. Some of them are wobblers, some are kicking others, some are on the edge with little table space, and no one is comfortable. The carpet and new seats are essential to give children their space while helping them attack their distractions with the wobble or bounce of a chair. We are going to make our own space with personal dry erase boards and take out the table when everyone has a seat. The letter organizers are so all of my groups know which bin of seatwork is theirs without interrupting instruction, which will keep the rotations in guided reading flowing. Last, sometimes don't you forget the line you were just reading? "Oh man I need to re-read, I totally skipped that line!" I have said that before and so have my students. The reading highlight strip will allow them to not miss a beat or a line in a book. I bet it was a good one they missed too. Please help me allow my students to flourish in their guided reading block.
