Each year my students eagerly look forward to our slime lesson! It's amazing, even my first graders know what a non-Newtonian substance is. I use the slime lesson to teach all kinds of objectives from color mixing to chemistry. We probe deep questions, such as what is art? What is science? Is slime art, or science or both?! This year I want to create three innovative science and art experiments using different glue bases and activators as we explore different recipes for slime. Usually we just use white glue and an activator with some paint for color. I think comparing and contrasting different ways to make and identify slime compounds could really get the students thinking on a higher level and encourage them to make extended hypotheses based on their prior knowledge.
