When my students sit with me for guided reading, they are reading from black and white books copied from on-line or old books from a reading series that say first grade but are not at the students' reading level. These books will do but they are not highly effective because the student can't always use the illustrations to help them comprehend, make connections or use context clues. The guided reading books that I chose for this project will provide my students with the appropriate reading material to continue to build their reading skills. To help my students become better readers and foster a love for reading, I believe each student deserves to have the opportunity to improve their reading with a colorful and engaging book that is on their reading level. By donating to our project, my students will be able to build their early literacy skills with appropriate guiding reading books. The students who struggle to figure out words, will be able to use picture clues to help them. They will be able to use the pictures and the words to make connections. Students who can't comprehend because the pictures are black and white, will be able to look at the colorful pictures and comprehend what they're reading. Most importantly, my students will use these books to continue to foster their love for reading. Please give them a chance by donating to our project.
