  • Publishing Students Stories

    Funded Nov 1, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donations! I am so excited to have students publish their own stories in a book form! This will be an opportunity to make learning come to life and students will feel like true authors. Thank you for making this tricky year more exciting and fun!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Candelora

This classroom project was brought to life by LOFT.
  • Sparking Conversations About Race and Racism

    Funded Jun 11, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donations towards these mentor texts. These will be used in the fall to spark conversations about race and racism! As you can imagine when we return to school there will be many things that students will have questions about and will need to be discussed. I am so excited to share these with the staff and they will be kept in our school library. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Candelora

  • The Book Fairy: She Delivers the Love of Reading!

    Funded Jan 8, 2020

I want to thank you for your generous donations and for all the wonderful books. We started the Book Fairy during the second week in March and all classes opened one of the books prior to the closing of our school. Students were so excited to receive a wrapped book on Monday, March 9th. We hung up many flyers about the book fairy during the first week of March so there was a lot of Buzz around our school. One kindergarten student told her teacher that there was no such thing as a Book fairy because she always asks for books and a fairy never brings them to her home. All students were so excited to open the book and enjoy a read aloud on the Monday. This book was used as an exemplar throughout the book and students were able to use while reading.

We had planned to do the other two books during the month of March but sadly Covid-19 pandemic hit. I am sorry I don't have any pictures for you but I can assure you that we will be starting the year (or whenever we return) with the Book Fairy. The principal and the literacy team things this is the best way to return to school with. Thank you to each and everyone of you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Candelora

I am a reading teacher at a very large school in Salem. I would like to be able to provide Independent work portfolios and tabs in which students will collect work samples from the entire year. The colorful binders and tabs will allow students to set goals and collect data to show the progress they will make. Also it will motivate students! Students will be able to set measurable goals and then show when they grow as a mathematician or as a reader. When a struggling reader becomes frustrated, they will be able to look back at their previous months work to see how they have grown. Next year we are adding an intervention block, where teachers will be individualizing instruction to provide interventions/ or to challenge their students. Each 6-8 weeks, students will set measurable goals for literacy, math and science and teachers will help students to collect data and work samples to monitor their progress. Some of these goals may include: Kindergarten: recognize and write the letters in my name, 1st grade: read 100 snap words, 2nd grade: Describe the characters in my writing journal using character traits, 3rd grade: Compare and contrast two of my favorite books, 4th grade: highlight or underline information in an article to help answer comprehension questions. Goals will be set with the students so that they are measurable and meaningful. Any and all contributions are welcome and would make a large impact at our school. As a public school educator I purchase many supplies on my own and would appreciate the help to provide this for our teachers and students.
