These materials will help build an inviting environment that encourages learning, and traveling through reading. Our students often lack the opportunity to travel, experience new adventures and reading gives them the opportunity to travel, take adventures, grow their mind.
The Library is the heart of our school. My goal is to offer the students a non-sterile environment (sterile as is clean of course-safety first) where they can come and enjoy a good book with their friends/peers. Allow them to take excursions through texts in a safe and comforting environment.
The round coffee table will allow us to remove the standard school tables, offering a home feeling where they can put their feet up, relax and explore. The couch will allow students to read in comfort rather than sitting, reading in hard plastic chairs, standard for classrooms. Also helping to eliminate neck strain and back pain. The Keurig coincides with our Starbooks theme, as well as says "stay a while, enjoy your time in the library and come back again soon." The planters offer a great ambiance, as well as a great opportunity for students to grow plants in a fun and exciting way. This also offers a learning experience that can connect to content areas such as science, along with offering a students a responsibility to care for their plants building a stronger relationship between them and the care of the library. We can also use media in the library, such as books on how to grow plants, to help. We can take our learning a step further by reading about the benefit of plants in regards to the air we breathe, as well other components of health. All the end tables will allow for storage for new books and encourage more reading in warm environment.
