My first graders listen to at least one book a day. They are so engaged and love story time. There are so many new challenges that students are facing: pandemic trauma, gender expression, different families and viewpoints, climate change, and of course the need to feel belonging, loved, and safe. Having quality read alouds make it so much easier to teach students. They are able to look at their own lives, and see the comparisons. It helps them to see how the characters in the book faced challenges. They feel like they can do it too.
