Fund Chromebooks for Civics Learning
Funded Sep 16, 2019My students and I are grateful for the generosity of the many donors who helped us secure Chromebooks to use in our Civics class. This is a brand new 8th grade curriculum in Massachusetts and having permanent access to Chromebook technology in the classroom will be a game changer in instruction. Our AMS students will be able to explore and interact with their federal, state and local governments, real time. Access to this technology will allow them to conduct primary document webquests, to better understand the underpinnings of our democracy. It will also aid in deepening their critical thinking about how governments work and the role citizens play in keeping them functioning in a healthy, responsible manner.
My students were excited to see that there would be dedicated Chromebooks just for civics that we can use every day, rather than waiting for our turn to share a common cart for our grade level team. We placed American flags on our dedicated Chromebooks so we could distinguish them from others and take pride in knowing that they are to be used solely for learning more about how our government works, what makes it unique and preferable to other governments, and what our role as citizens is in maintaining a healthy, responsive government.
We will use these Chromebooks in cooperative groups to undertake research, understand media influence, play civics-related critical thinking games, explore government departments, and importantly, develop student-led, project-based, real life civics projects within our community. We can't wait to get started! Thank you again for your financial support.”
With gratitude,
