As a community that was affected by Hurricane Harvey, we are still feeling the effects of it today. Our school itself was not physically damaged, but it was faced with a great challenge. Lots of our students and even staff members were affected physically, emotionally, and mentally by the disaster that rocked the Texas coast. With all the negative the storm brought, it also brought out the positive. Communities came together. People not only helping neighbors but helping strangers. Everyone put everything else aside, and we were just neighbors helping neighbors! When you choose to help fund these materials for our classroom, you are choosing to help promote independence and foster sensory needs for my classroom. Many of these materials will help develop my students sensory system. This is important because sensory activities facilitate exploration and naturally encourage children to use scientific processes while they play, create, investigate, and explore. The other materials are going to be used to help my students become more independent. This will build their confidence and self-esteem encouraging them to reach their full learning potential.
