Obtaining a license to use Boardmaker online will provide our students with the supports they need to access content in a variety of ways. It will allow them the ability to engage in interactive activities that utilize visual supports, and provide opportunities to answer questions receptively (without having to anything). Visual supports have been well-researched and shown to have a positive impact on students with disabilities' learning. Being able to interact with lesson materials on the SMARTBoard utilizing these visuals allows for more opportunities to practice skills such as taking turns, following directions, answering questions, fine motor skills, and complying with directives which all lead to more independent lives. Utilizing these visuals aligns with the TEACCH model, developed by the University of North Carolina, whose research shows visual structure and schedules has a positive impact for students with autism spectrum disorder for engagement, organization, sequencing, executive function, and managing sensory input.
