Alphabet tubs are tools that will help my children learn letters and letter sounds. Alphabet tubs will be used daily during centers time in the classroom. Center time gives students a chance to learn in small group through a variety of different play and activities. It promotes independent, hands-on learning. Initially students will explore what is inside the Alphabet Tubs. They will progress to naming the objects. The goal is to have the students name the letter and sound of the letter that the item starts. An example might be naming the tiger in the Tt tub and growling like or crawling like a tiger. During this small group activity, the letter Tt will be introduced, as well as the sound it makes. Exploration and hands-on learning are the foundation of my head start classroom. Using these hands on manipulatives, students will begin to learn letters and letter sounds all through play! This will further their love of learning and sense of accomplishment.
