We are an inner-city elementary school garden club. All of our students are eager, excited and come to garden club every Wednesday ready to work.
Our focus is on keeping an organic garden, so children have a better understanding of knowing where their food comes from. We are progressing towards becoming an all green club. We strive to educate our students with knowledge about healthy eating habits and healthy food choices. By gaining this essential knowledge the students gain a lifelong skill to carry with them and pass along to friends and family members in their communities.
We are working on expanding our garden and creating two more garden beds for the students. We are also working to create a pumpkin patch for the fall.
In addition, we also teach the students strong work ethic. This is achieved by including the students in weeding, planting, raking, watering, and other daily maintenance of the garden.
