Problem Solving Surfaces and Plant Science
Funded Apr 12, 2023Thank you for helping me give my students a vertical space for working on math tasks in small groups. This particular approach has been shown to greatly increase student's engagement and thinking as they problem solve together. These dry erase reusable sheets can be put away between uses, which frees up our classroom space for other uses. Flexibility is always a boon in any classroom!
I have noticed that my students are already benefitting from being able to work in this way. Thank you for making it possible for us to access these resources.”

Magnificent Math Practice
Funded Nov 9, 2022Thank you for your generous contribution to our classroom allowing for the purchase of math manipulatives and teaching aids.
Variety is not just the "spice of life", it is also a fantastic way to teach, model, review, and reinforce concepts in math! Having a lot of different approaches to my instruction helps to ensure that I will be able to connect with the varied learning styles in my classroom.
The folder games are great for independent review. The number lines have been extremely helpful as we start fractions. The division games are a wonderful way to reinforce foundational knowledge.”

Awesome Auditory Aides
Funded Aug 9, 2022Our class uses Chromebooks frequently for testing, as well as instructional tasks. For quite some time we used earbuds. We could not share them among students, as this was not sanitary and they would also wear out quickly. We had a partial set of sturdy headphones, but not enough for our entire class.
Thank you for helping to supply each student with a quality set of headphones.
These headphones should last for many years in my classroom. Your generous gift to our classroom is much appreciated.”

Funded Jan 21, 2022These materials will be a wonderful addition to our class and I am excited to begin incorporating them into our small group and independent work times. My students will benefit from having a variety of resources to help them progress, fill gaps in their learning, and review important foundational skills.”

Funded Dec 1, 2020The terrariums and aquarium that you helped our class to aquire as part of the "bodacious biomes" project were a great addition to our third science strand exploring the cycling of matter through ecosystems. Students were able to study the individual environments and make comparisons on the different conditions under which certain living things thrive as well as the living and nonliving elements.
My goal is to be able to continue to make use of these for my future classes as well. I hope to have students help me maintain them and to introduce the biomes earlier in the year for study throughout.
Thank you again for making this project available to my students!”

Funded Mar 3, 2020The books that you have helped our class to attain are intended to help them learn more about a challenging time in our history--World War II. Each of the books presents the perspective of a youth living through that time period. These characters include: a young girl in England who goes to the countryside to escape the bombings in London, a young man in America whose father is serving in the military, a teenage Jewish girl in Poland who joins the resistance and ends up being part of the uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto, and an Irish boy who joins the Hitler youth as a teen in order to continue operating as a spy in Berlin and help the Allies.
My intent was to use these books as book club reads and then have students compare and contrast the different perspectives and experiences. As a class we would put our work together to gain a wider perspective on the War and its effects. This is how I will use these resources moving forward.
The current health crisis we are facing hit just before my students were organized into their groups and given their assigned books. Our school will remain in a soft close through the end of the year and with all learning taking place through our digital platform. Due to this unprecedented circumstance, I realized the only way to share these books with them this year would be through a recorded teacher read. I am doing my best to give them access to this literature. I feel that this is the perfect time for them to hear stories of youth navigating difficult circumstances with resilience and courage. Thank you for your gift to our classroom.”

Funded Feb 14, 2020There are many things associated with our literacy program, and our science and social studies curriculum that students need to access via computer, in addition to research and writing projects. Headphones are frequently needed as well. The headphones and splitters allow us to maximize the use of the Chromebooks available to us. We currently share a set with two other classrooms. In the past I collected cheap earbuds for my students. They proved to be unable to hold up under the energetic use of my fifth graders, not to mention unsanitary. My students are delighted with these new headphones and splitters. We are most appreciative of your help!”

We Need Mail!
Funded Aug 9, 2019My students were excited to see the mailbox assembled and ready to go in our classroom. In all honesty, some of them might have been less excited if they had realized that Mrs. Durrant would be using this mailbox to track the completion of their work more quickly. :) It is vital that students stay caught up with their classroom work. In particular, math can become quite overwhelming and confusing if they should fall behind. With this mailbox, I track quickly every day and students have immediate accountability.
This mailbox also helps me to ensure that important papers get taken home. I know exactly who got what and who has not emptied their mailbox. In addition, it is easier for my students to complete their classroom job of delivering mail and they look forward to fulfilling this responsibility.
We also use the extra slots in our mailbox to hold papers that we need access to daily for our work. Thank you for helping us to get better organized!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Durrant
