With a classroom full of students with a variety of learning needs, it's important to keep the kids feeling comfortable and happy for an optimal learning environment. I know as an adult, if I am not comfortable it's extremely hard for me to focus and get quality work done. Right now my students know they can stand at the counter, or sit in a stool rather than a chair, but these are the only options right now. I would love for them to be able to comfortably sit on the floor to collaborate with peers or cozy up on a pillow with a good book at reading time. Many of these kids also need breaks when school becomes stressful, so to have a nice place to sit with some tools that foster creativity while taking a mental break provides them with structure. With the use of flexible seating options, and tools to help them focus and grow, these kids can do amazing things. Giving them the option to make learning choices for themselves on where they feel they can best learn and using tools that help them focus, allows the kids to take control of their learning. Too often we tell the kids what to learn and how to learn it. Providing them with choices helps them grow and have a voice for what they need, not what adults tell them they need. Thank you for helping my students!
