We strive to promote an environment where the children can accomplish many goals. One is feeding oneself. Hand/ eye coordination is still being developed and having chairs that are a little higher help with less spilled milk, dropped peaches, and eating accidents. Thus, resulting in an accomplished task and higher self-esteem. These chairs have safety straps and are appropriate for infants under the age of one through toddlerhood. These chairs allow for toddler’s independence as they can climb in and out of them by themselves. They promote the family style meal philosophy that Early Head Start supports as these chairs will fit comfortably under or around the tables we have in our classroom already. If they are being used as a high chair it still allows for the children to be seated at the same height as the peers in their classroom. Self-regulation is ever developing in our children as well. As infants and toddlers develop these chairs will help to promote positive self-regulation. These higher chairs will allow for less impulsive moves that result in children pushing themselves away from the table and not being able to push themselves back in.
