High School Photography for Mental Health
Funded Nov 17, 2024Thank you so much for funding our project!
Since receiving our new digital camera students have not only learned how to navigate new technical processes and compose more dynamic compositions, but they have begun to express themselves in ways that communicate their identities and ideas more clearly.
Students were very excited to learn how to adjust the aperture and shutter speeds to affect the mood and emotions of their photographs, and to collaborate with one another to experiment with different lighting and framing techniques. This has helped them to explore their inner worlds and self-perceptions, and to build stronger relationships with one another, supporting our efforts to support their mental health.
Some students in our AP Art class who haven't had as much previous experience with drawing and painting were becoming a bit overwhelmed by some of the demands of the course. Having access to a high quality camera has been liberating for them as they can now begin to include well executed photographic series in their final portfolios.
Students have also had so much fun experimenting with the Sunprint paper, and it's a great addition to our investigations of photographic processes.
Thank you so much again for everything - it's been so beneficial and we really, really appreciate it!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Kaitlin
