I am a 6th grade ancient civilizations teacher. These android tablets will provide me an opportunity take my students on a virtual field trip to six different ancient ruins! Using a combination of Google Earth 360 degree views, informational text, visuals, and video content, my students will learn and explore ancient ruins up close! My students will get to explore up close:
:: Ziggurats (Mesopotamia)
:: The Great Wall (China)
:: Kingdom of Aksum (Africa)
:: Machu Picchu (Inca)
:: Chichen Itza ( Maya)
:: Acropolis of Athens (Greece).
Indeed, these virtual field trips will complement greatly their in-class learning experience.
It will cover at least 3 English Language Arts standards, to include:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.6.7, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RH.6-8.7, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.WHST.6-8.9.
In addition, it will cover multiple social studies standards, to include:
SS.6-8.EWC.5, SS.6-8.EWC.6, SS.6-8.EWC.14, SS.6-8.EWC.15, SS.6-8.EWC.16, SS.6-8.EWC.17.
As an ancient civilization teacher, these tablets will allow my students to use Google Earth in the classroom, which will greatly complement the lessons we are learning. For example, when I am teaching them about Ancient China, and how early Chinese Dynasties, over the course of over 1,000 years, built walls, to protect them from attacks from various nomadic groups; through the funding of this project, my students will actually be able to see in "almost real life" the actual Great Wall of China using the Google Earth app on their tablets. Indeed, these tablets will greatly enhance my lessons and, more importantly, the learning experience of my students. Thus, allowing me to be more successful in ensuring that my students learn the applicable Nevada Academic Content Standards stated.
