The Epic Garden!

Funded Mar 21, 2020

My students have endured much trauma and instability during the pandemic. Many students became isolated and forgot how to interact with others. Children stayed in their houses for weeks, living in fear. My students expressed that they felt powerless and became depressed. However, they have finally been able to reconnect with nature and their classmates. The gardening club has offered a sense of security and belonging for my students. They are able to make decisions and have control over this particular situation. The students have chosen the plants they wish to see in our garden and decided on the location. Your generosity has allowed students to appreciate nature and hopefully give back to their community.

We have recently beautified an outdoor sitting area for all to enjoy. We hope this can inspire other students to connect with nature. Sometimes we all need to slow down and smell the flowers, literally.

My students were in awe when they initially saw the supplies waiting for them. Words cannot describe how I felt when I saw students laughing while gardening. The club has offered an escape for many of them, as they still feel the mental and emotional burden of the Covid-19 pandemic. Thank you for this opportunity, we are eternally grateful!”

With gratitude,

Ms. Kumar
