  • Bouncy Bands For Better Focus

    Funded Jun 21, 2023

My first graders and I want to thank you so much for our Bouncy Bands. Thanks to you every child has one on their chair. They will use them to help them focus more during whole group lessons by bouncing their legs to get their wiggles out and remain on task. Also, since each child has one, the children with diagnosed attention difficulties and special needs are not singled out. I could have not provided this accommodation without your generosity. Again, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hewes

  • Meet Me On The Rug

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

Thank you so much for our new classroom rug. We now have a central meeting place, where we conduct our whole group lessons. We also meet there to share our work with one another and hold class meetings. It is an integral part of our classroom. The children love it because it is so colorful and inviting.

When my students first saw our new rug, they were ecstatic. They love the fact that they each have their own defined space within a square. This also assists them in learning what personal space is and how to utilize it. The are able sit and listen to a story and also turn and talk with a partner with ease.

Thank you again for donating to this project. The children in my first grade class as well as my future first graders will enjoy this rug for years to come!”

  • Say Cheese! Fantastic Firsties Need a Classroom Document Camera!

    Funded Mar 5, 2021

Thank you so much for the generous donation of a document camera. It has been a true asset to our classroom. It has allowed the children to see and follow directions more closely. We use it to project book pages, projects and worksheets and complete them together. it allows the page to be magnified and this is incredibly important to first graders, who are just beginning their educational career.

The document camera has given us the technology needed during our reintegration into the school after our remote learning time had ended. With the need for continued spacing and separation, this camera became essential.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hewes

  • Lifelong Learning Begins in First Grade

    Funded Aug 24, 2022

I cannot thank you enough for donating to this project. My students mailboxes had fallen apart and were using tape to hold them together, so the organizer is very much appreciated. The gift cards will be used to purchase materials that supplement our new literacy program and the stools will be a great asset to our Guided reading/small group table area. I can’t thank you enough!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hewes

  • First Grade Remote Learning

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

Thank you so much for the most generous donations to my project! As you can imagine, teaching 6 year old remotely can pose quite a challenge and your donation will assist in providing engaging lessons that will solidify new skills and concepts. I an't tell you how much your generosity is appreciated by myself as well as my future first graders!”

  • First Grade Tools for Success!

    Funded May 29, 2020

Thank you so very much for the very generous and thoughtful donations to our first grade classroom. During this very difficult and unprecedented time of remote learning and with anticipated budget cuts, these materials are very much appreciated by myself as well as my students. My students will be thrilled with all

Of these materials and supplies. Thank you again.”

  • Learning with Technology

    Funded Jun 4, 2019

Thank you very much for donating to our project. These tablets will be utilized in many different ways in our classroom. They will be used in our literacy centers, for listening and responding to stories, practicing out phonics skills and for writing stories. We will use them for math by practicing our basic facts and for reinforcing the different concepts that we are learning about. In the areas of science and social studies, we will research different habitats and the animals that inhabit them. The students will then write a research report on the tablet. In Social Studies, we will investigate different cultures and people around the world. These tablets are going to give us so much exposure to the world around us!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hewes

The materials that I am requesting will foster my students' learning across the curriculum. They will use these tablets for many different activities which include partner and collaborative work as well as independent research based activities. It will also benefit those students with special needs and students whose first languages are something other than English. Because students today are already somewhat familiar with technology, these tablets would be extremely beneficial when the students are expected to complete higher level independent work while I am working with other groups. Since my classroom includes many students with special needs and those who speak languages other than English, these tablets would be a valuable asset to them, as well as their peers. They would have the opportunity to practice skills at their level, which may or may not be that of their classmates.
