Our Ceramics Class Has No Clay!
Funded Dec 14, 2023I cannot thank you enough for helping us supply our high school students with clay this semester. The impact of this donation has reverberated beyond just the art program and throughout our entire community.
Ceramics is by far the most popular art offering at our school. I've never seen students crave working with clay like they have this year. Perhaps this is due to their lives becoming increasingly digital, or the fact that so many students didn't experience art as small children due to budget cuts, or because of the mental and emotional toll of having lived through a pandemic? Regardless of the reason, every day students come in before or after school to work on their projects. During lunch, my room is full of people working with clay. In fact, I'm regularly asked by students who didn't get into a Ceramics class if they can come in during their free time to make something (of course I say yes). I'm going to need another donation!
While I will attach photos of student creations to this letter, the impact of your donation is far more profound than the things they make. You have provided a desperately needed opportunity for students to put away their phones, slow waaaay down, and work with their hands. It's been incredible to witness this experience.”

Basic Supplies for High School Art
Funded Dec 12, 2023Thank you so much for your donation to our Art Class. We started using the materials you helped provide on the VERY SAME DAY they arrived! Four classes (nearly 120 high school students!) were able to make artwork thanks to your support and I'm thrilled to share some of their work with you.
In Drawing and Painting class, students learned to mix and shade with paint. They used the acrylics from this donation to complete an "American Portrait" assignment where they chose and painted a subject they felt authentically represents our country. From Angela Davis to K-Pop stars and parents, their choices were as varied as my students. One of my favorites was a student who painted a ballpoint pen explaining that "in the history of this country, we have overwritten other peoples' stories. But the people who live here, like myself, have written and created their own stories." Wow!
In another class, students who are brand new to making art learned how to carve multi-colored reduction prints using the printing blocks from this donation. This was a highly-involved, complex final project and many students told me it was their favorite of the semester. I'm so grateful I had the supplies to provide them with this experience.
Again, thanks so much for helping make the art program at our school such a wild success.”

Ms. Amy
Our School Has No Name!
Funded May 11, 2023Thank you so much for your donation to our Art Class. We started using the materials to create school signage on the VERY DAY they arrived! We celebrated finishing the project during the last week of school and this year, both new and returning students will arrive to a building clearly marked for them.
As you'll see from the photos, 4th and 5th graders took the lead on this project. They prepped the boards and used blue tape to stencil letters. Then, all students from the youngest to the oldest, painted designs and areas of color on top of the stencils. They even painted images on the back of each board which can be seen through the chain link fence where it hangs!
Again, thanks so much for helping make such a big impact in our school community. We truly could not have done it without you.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Amy
This classroom project was brought to life by SONIC Foundation and 6 other donors. Our Art Room Needs Supplies!
Funded Feb 5, 2023Thank you so much for your donation to our Art Class. We started using the materials you helped provide on the VERY SAME DAY they arrived! Since then every class, from Kindergarten to Middle School, has benefitted from your donation.
For example, 4th-7th graders used the watercolor paper to make beautiful Watercolor Constellations. For this project, students looked at a star chart of our current night sky and identified their own constellation (complete with a name). We then layered masking fluid, liquid watercolors, and salt to create convincing deep space images featuring their constellations. This project relied on heavy-duty watercolor and has been such a success, our local public library is putting them on display for the community!
All of my students have loved working with the tempera sticks ("it's like a glue stick but PAINT!"). My older students used them to add color to their Abstract Expressionist pieces in which they captured a feeling. My younger students used them to add color to the gorgeous butterfly prints they made while exploring bilateral symmetry. I will attach images of these projects so you can see how wonderful they are for yourself!
Again, thanks so much for helping make the art program at our school such a wild success and a class that students look forward to all week.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Amy
