Every year our students are applying to more and more colleges. Not just any colleges, but highly selective, Ivy League status colleges. This is a huge deal for our district! Our high school is incredibly diverse and pools from several different communities. For years, our high school had a negative reputation that spread based on ignorance, prejudice, and fear. Real estate agents in some of the more affluent communities slated to attend our school would tell new home owners not to send their children to our high school!
In the last ten years, our students, teachers, and administrators have raised the expectations for ourselves and each other. Now, more and more of our students are challenging themselves and excelling in incredibly rigorous classes, including Advanced Placement, Capstone, Project Lead the Way STEM, and Dual Enrollment courses. The are earning acceptances from top colleges and universities, and we want to SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS!
We are requesting party supplies - banners, tassels and decorations - to create a College Acceptance Wall to showcase all of the amazing schools our students have been accepted to. This will be the first thing people see when the walk in to the building.
We will also be showcasing our students' college decisions during our annual College Decision Day celebration on May 1st. We have a big celebration to congratulate the seniors on their hard work over the past four years. The students wear their college gear and we post their pictures on social media, tagging their future colleges. It's a great way for the students to celebrate each other, and sends a positive message to the underclassmen. It also gives the seniors a day to de-stress before their Advanced Placement tests that week!
