My sophomore students are taking Geometry. The virtual aspect of the course requires headphones along with a calculator for success in the classroom and on standardized testing. In my classroom, the students are in close quarters therefore can be easily distracted by peers when working on their lessons of the day. In order to ensure each student is actively engaged in their own lesson, our students are in need of headphones. Students come to school without headphones on a daily basis and often have to borrow from others just to get their work done for the day. This leads to feeling discouraged and often times the students become frustrated because the school does not have the funding to provide them with this simple requirement.
Geometry is one subject that without the proper calculations the entire problem will end up wrong. In Geometry, the students use calculators to solve problems including formulas, finding the sides and angles of triangles, and proving and applying theorems. As the teacher, I will provide them with supportive and engaging instruction on how to properly use the calculators. Proper calculator use and guidance will prepare and allow the students to be successful for their current and future online math classes.
