Representing Ourselves with the Colors of Us!
Funded Feb 11, 2021We can't thank you enough for your incredible support of inclusivity, diversity, and celebration of self in our art studio at Cedar Hills. Our artists have been so thrilled to receive boxes and boxes of brand new art supplies to help them represent themselves in their work! Their eyes gleamed when we began unpacking it all! With each class, when I've brought out the new materials, there were oohs and ahhs galore! The excitement in their artwork grew as well!
As an educator, it has been amazing to be able to provide my young artists with the exact materials they need to achieve success in representing themselves and their beautiful community that they make up. When a student needs a certain colored paper, paint, pastel, marker, colored pencil, crayon, and more, I know the material is within arms reach! Watching their ideas come to fruition with works that accurately portray themselves makes my heart so happy!
I am so excited to be able to continue to plan lessons and projects that use these materials as the options are endless! So far we've created portraits, skin tone weavings, posters, human figure studies, and I can't wait to continue adding options to my curriculum that help our students celebrate their own beautiful selves both inside and out! Thank you for giving me this opportunity for them.”
With gratitude,

Funded Mar 31, 2019I can't thank you enough for all of your help in receiving the tools, supplies, and materials for my students. These incredible young children needed tools that were at their developmental level and these tools gave them the opportunities to practice vital skills like proper grasp, or proper tactile pressure, to help them succeed. My students were able to work with the variety of materials within the amount of stamina that they have and were able to switch manipulatives frequently when they needed to.
Having access to all of the different materials allowed them to remain in the art studio where they belong with their peers and have the right tools to keep them learning and growing. I was more than thrilled to organize and place all the supplies at their eye level so they could help themselves and have ownership of the materials in the studio just the same as any other young artist who uses the art studio. My favorite part of watching all of their time in here was seeing them work alongside their peers, sharing tools, and getting excited to experience all the materials with all of their senses!”
