I am requesting Gyotaku fish, leaf, and butterfly kits for our printmaking art/science integration unit. Our enduring idea nature will be inspired by the study of the Japanese art form of Gyotaku fish prints. My students will be given a hands-on visual art experience to embed their natural life form science studies. We will be exploring life cycles and habitats of species. The children will be using the art supplies to journal their understanding of nature with colorful art printmaking pieces. So often, urban children only read about nature to learn about it. With this project, I expect my young student artists to become more knowledgeable about the natural world making cultural, and visual art concept connections. This project will empower, engage, and build excitement toward lifelong scientific life form learning through artistic exploration.
