I have played piano my whole life and want to use this skill to enrich the experience my students have in my classroom. I would use the piano as a management technique, such as to signal groups to switch centers (instead of using a bell). I would also use the piano to play many of the nursery rhyme songs we learn, as well as play songs periodically for my students in order to give them brain breaks. I would love for my students to explore music by taking turns on the piano as well. It will help them develop fine motor skills as they reach for the keys and apply pressure to them. It will also hopefully inspire some to pursue playing the piano at some point in their lives. It will add an element of fun that would transform the way I manage and interact with my students.
