¡Hola! The best way to learn language is through individualized learning experiences where students can feel comfortable learning and practicing at their own pace. My Spanish classes are completely full with 39 students in each class, yes 39! High school students can be very shy when it comes to attempting to speak a NEW language and so they love "hiding" in the crowd of 39, but this is no way to learn language! I attempt to create smaller, more intimate learning communities within my class by using stations so that students feel more comfortable and confident developing second language skills. It is essential to IMMERSE yourself as much as possible with the language, meaning GO FOR IT! Just put yourself out there and TRY speaking it! Well, its a lot easier for high school students to GO FOR IT and TRY when working in a smaller group of 10 students, versus a group 39. As a teacher, I create different activities in these 4 stations that aim at learning new vocabulary and expressions. They all build off of each other, so the stations are also scaffolded for "small learning bits" which then come together for a larger goal. The iPad would assist me in being present with one of the teams to record/turn in work, recording the groups collective work, etc. I find that two of the groups NEED to have some kind of check for understanding (while one of those checks is done with me in on of the groups, the iPad would assist in a second group in recording some type of assessment/check for understanding). The purpose of the microphone is to help me amplify my voice. It is very challenging to teach language with a mask on! Students struggle to hear me, so the mic would help!
