In our Algebra 1 class, students must be able to solve one variable equation and inequalities (HS.A-REI.A.1). Students struggle to solve inequalities when they simply write the equation and try to use inverse operations to solve. I have purchased material such as algebra tiles and boards for students to manipulate to create more kinesthetic learning opportunities. I also will create "game-ified" lessons where students will try to unlock a series of boxes from clues given to them by solving math problems called escape room. This kind of activity can be used for all algebra 1 standards. I also create videos for each lesson. Students will be able to use the over ear headphones to listen to the videos. This emphasizes the learner's choice and learner's speed. Students can rewind, pause, and complete the video at their own pace. Many students do not have earbuds that are compatible with their chromebooks, so students need another way to access the videos in class without playing the video aloud. Students will also keep a math journal containing all of their warm-ups, exit tickets, and additional notes. Student can create an interactive notebook with the work they receive in class. Students currently lack a system of keeping their work. Students often throw away their papers as soon as they get them. This notebook will help students stay organized. I also purchased cleaning supplies to ensure a clean and safe learning environment for students. I do not have enough cleaning supplies for the year to keep desks and material free of bacteria and viruses.
