Students as young as preschool all the way up to high school will benefit from using glaze on their clay projects. Our district has an opportunity to use chemistry and science while exploring ceramics. Junior high and high school classes benefit from the texture element that the crystalline glazes provide. Each student will have an opportunity to experiment and use the glaze colors while planning their clay projects. Glazed ceramic artwork looks professional and are highly regarded in art competitions at the high school level but also in the elementary school as well. Motivation to do well with a clay project increases when students can experience every step in finishing the artwork. From how to mold the clay, allowing it to dry, firing in the kiln and then finally using the glaze, students get to experience the whole process.
