  • Sensory Seekers Solutions

    Funded Dec 6, 2024

Thank you to all those who donated to our class project. I wanted to share an update on our recent project, which was incredibly successful thanks to your generosity. This marks the third time in my career I've received completed funding, a testament to the ongoing support we're fortunate to receive. The impact of previous donations, some as far back as eight years ago, continues to be felt on daily in our classroom.

The new materials have been a wonderful addition. The students were immediately drawn to the sensory toys, particularly the hourglass-shaped ones. One student, "Greg", finds them invaluable for self-regulation. The weighted stuffed aniamls, a wolf and a monkey, have becomes cherished class pets, offering comfort and promoting social interaction among the children. We've even seen instances of peer-to-peer support, with students comforting each other using the animals.

The play ice cream comes have also proven to be a versatile resource, enriching both imaginative play and opportunities for learning about sharing and engaging with our sensory materials. Their adaptability highlights the success of our donations and your thoughtfulness.

    Thanks again for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Janiec

  • A Safe Place to Land

    Funded Sep 4, 2019

Thank you for donating to our project! With your help, we received a rug, 6 pillows, 2 magnetic book holders, and a magnetic marker holder all for our meeting area. We use our meeting area to meet as a whole group at least 3 times a day. When we are not meeting as a large group, students are either reading or using the meeting area to build with blocks. We also have some students who use the meeting area during rest time to relax or take a nap. This special part of our room is where we make group decisions, do read alouds, learn about each other, and talk about everything.

The day we unrolled the new carpet, the students were in awe. They were saying things like "wow" and "it's sooo big" and "I love all the colors!". Everyone was excited to find a spot they enjoyed and pick the color square they wanted to sit on. Now that we have had the rug for a few months, some students have a specific square they prefer to sit in, and watch out if someone is in "their spot"! There are also students who only sit in a certain rows.

We will continue to use the book holders for the books my PreK students use when they are "reading" by themselves, gaining exposure to print and "reading" to each other. All of the resources you helped to provide will be used for the next few years- or hopefully longer!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Janiec

  • Ease Our Art With an Easel

    Funded Apr 10, 2019

Thank you for your donations to our project. I was so excited to have my project funded and to get an easel for the students to draw, write, and paint on.

The excitement started before our easel, watercolor paper, paints, and brushes were even out of the packages! When the boxes came in, the kids ran over asking what was in the boxes and what we were going to do with the new items. Once we had the easel set up and ready to go, the students jumped right in! We used the easel each day during center time- finger painting, watercolors, tempera, etc. They used dry erase markers to draw pictures of themselves, the playground, unicorns... really so many things they love, they drew it all.

The items I received through this project will last for years to come. The easel will again be part of my art center, as will the paint cups, new brushes, and water color paints. For the 2019-2020 school year, I have planned a few projects already to use the water color paper.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Janiec

In our room, we have a bunch of different centers for learning; blocks and building, dramatic play, science, math, music, "center of the month", writing, and art. In our art center, the students love to draw and paint. We would really benefit from an easel to use. They love to create monsters- who eat grapes or to draw the "bee on me" after a student was wearing a bee costume in the science center. Students would use the easel daily to paint on the easel, which improves hand strength because of the angle. Students would use both tempera and watercolors to create their artwork. They would also draw (funny faces are a currently favorite) on the dry erase board and practice writing their names.
