Makers Space is a new class that I created this year for our Middle School Students. The students have become very excited about it and love making their projects. I have 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in each class. A challenge is given to the students and they must journal and design a project to meet this challenge. They can use only the materials that are in the classroom. They can not make their projects at home and bring them to school. It is the students work. Imagine students being excited about building, using critical thinking skills and designing projects. It is a combination of STEM with an art side. You could actually call it STEAM! Some of the students design their projects to be more technical and use batteries, wire, old computers. Some of the students are more artsy and want to paint and make their projects look really nice while still meeting the challenge. This is a brand new class so I started from scratch on materials. I have raided my craft closet and junk in the garage to bring items to class for the students to use. I save all cardboard as it has become a wonderful building resource. This class has been a wonderful addition to our school.
