My students need this easel in the classroom because it provides a space for them to work interactively. Students will be able to access the drawers that contain differentiated activities to work on as a part of their reading center. These activities include sight words, word work activities, poetry tasks, and some really fun reading games. The middle part of the easel allows me to provide interesting and engaging literature at the fingertips of students. I can store books that correlate with our particular unit of study. For example, during our life-cycles unit, I will have books about mammals, mollusks, amphibians, reptiles, and so much more. During our biographies unit, students will be able to know that this is a place to learn about amazing people such as Ruby Bridges, Mahatma Ghandi, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Edison, and the many more that have yet to be named. The top portions of the easel are dry erase and magnetic. This allows students to use this space to work with their partner in a variety of ways. They can quiz each other standing on opposite sides about spelling or math problems. As well as they can use magnetic word parts to practice word families. As a teacher, I will utilize the top portion during writing instruction to model specific writing strategies. I will also use this are to have choral reading and shared reading that incorporate our weekly word study. Here students can have authentic access to those words in a text.
