I cannot wait to give my students a hands-on learning experience during our insect unit! I know my students will love using the microscopes to get a closer look at the parts of the insects. They will absolutely love watching the life cycle of the praying mantis and butterfly. We had the opportunity to incubate egg in the fall. They were so excited to come in each morning to see if any had hatched overnight. I know they will be just as eager to watch as the a caterpillars turn into butterflies. I am particularly excited about the ant farm. My own children had one when they were preschoolers and thoroughly enjoyed watching the ants work. I know my students will love the books that I have selected. They will love the vivid photographs in the books! I plan for them to use the magnifying glasses outside to look for bugs. They will be able to catch them and keep them in the classroom for a few days before we release them. They will also really enjoy the bug goggles, because it will let them see the world as the insects do. I hope that this project is funded so that I can give my preschoolers this hands-on experience.
