Space and Meteorology: Future Astronomers and Weatherbugs!
Funded Jul 7, 2022My students are so excited about our Space and Meteorology equipment! We have a daily broadcast and the students have been using our new weather station to inform our students and teachers of the weather by utilizing the new equipment that we received. They have been making comparisons to the weather forecast by local newscasters and tracking their data in weather journals. They have also taught other students how to use the weather station.
The students have been exploring what they can see during the day using the high powered telescope. They have been successful with locating images of Jupiter and they have been researching how to take photographs by pairing the telescope with certain cameras. We have hosted a STEM night and the students have demonstrated how to use the telescope to find stars. They have been searching the NASA Website to discover other ways they can use the telescope to complete experiments.
Students are now studying and documenting patterns as they observe the Sun, Moon, and stars. Because of your generous donation, they are exploring, making predictions, and gaining great experience in using professional equipment.”

Funded Mar 16, 2021We are so thankful for the diversity books we received to use for special projects in the library! Because of your generosity, we were able to add valuable titles to our collection and have relevant discussions regarding social issues that we face in society. The students were able to browse through the titles and select the first book they felt was relevant for events occurring all across the country. Since all of the titles were recently published, our students now have access to current books that are relevant to world events. The first book we read, A Good Kind of Trouble, was an awesome read that inspired conversations about events occurring across the country. After reading this book, we devoted time to research the civil rights era, important civil rights activists (i.e. John Lewis) and their contributions, and to take virtual field trips to compliment our studies. It has allowed the students to associate names with faces and imagine how our lives would be without the work of the activists we have studied.
We are truly grateful for the opportunity to read and share such a diverse collection of resources that can be utilized in so many ways. Without the generous donations we received from various donors, our projects would not be possible.”
