I am asking for a little bit of help so that my preschoolers can create a vegetable garden. Gardening engages children in observation, discovering, experimenting and learning. While gardening is also such a learning experience; it incorporates fine and gross motors skills, cognitive development and communication skills. The children will be able to discover how fresh fruits and vegetables are produced from the garden. They will be able to watch the process of the garden evolve and grow. From seed to table is a wonderful lesson for children. By giving my class a garden bed, soil, and gardening tools, it will expose them to a hands-on learning experience that they will be able to take part in. As well as observation, some life lessons will be learned through gardening: watering, digging, planting and caring for the vegetable garden will teach my students responsibility, patience, nurturing, and cooperation. This not only teaches my students, but it engages all of their senses which in turn fosters a fun healthy activity. They will learn and use the important tools and other factors that are needed to grow a vegetable garden. The children will be directly involved in the process of our creation of the garden. They will be able to create a learning experience with themselves and one another with the trials and errors through these hands-on activities and experiences with their other classmates. Patience, teamwork, nurturing, cooperation is just a few of the life lessons that will be learned and hope to be carried on.
