The cameras I am requesting for my students will mean more to them than just aiding in the creation of the yearbook. My students are all English Language Learners who got thrown into a brand new yearbook program. When we first started the program, two years ago, many of my students did not even know what a yearbook was, as they did not have them in their home countries. However, they immediately became interested in the idea of capturing every moment in our school, in turn submitting thousands of photos to me each school year.
The students have worked on learning photography skills, mainly through their cell phones. I want to take the kids to the next level, and let them obtain real-world experience through practicing with cameras that can do so much more than their phones. Currently, we have one camera that my 25 yearbook staff members are allowed to share and check out. With your help, the doors will open with many possibilities of taking our class and turning it into real life practice for potential careers. While my students do not gravitate towards the story writing in the yearbook, as they struggle with the english language, they always say a thousand words with the submission of just one picture. We truly need your support to keep improving their photography skills, and our yearbook program as a whole.
