Coming in new this year, I was at the mercy of the supplies we had on hand. I have come to realize that being on a cart means very little transition time between classes. Because of this, painting has been very limited. Acrylic and Tempera paints are a lot of fun, but they don't travel well from class to class - especially once they are on a palette! By having cake tempera paints, it will make less of a mess during art (which means happier teachers) and will allow for more time creating and painting for my students. We do a lot of projects using construction paper - especially in the lower elementary grades. In order to be efficient with our paper, I usually cut the paper down to manageable pieces that will be about the size of the piece needed. However, this takes a lot of prep time. With only having 2 hours of prep time for the week, I find that I often avoid construction paper projects. Although it is good to have a variety, I feel that some of my students are missing out on making characters and things that they would really love to make. My students are very deserving of receiving all of the tools and supplies on my list. Although we are a small, rural school, they have so much talent and drive in them. I would love to see them use that in every capacity possible while I have them in art this year.
