Having a 120 grid rug in our classroom will not only provide a general daily meeting area for my students, but it will also give students opportunities to practice number sense. Part of the first grade standard is to identify numbers and place values from 1 to 120. This rug will also allow my students the opportunity to skip count and visually identify +10, -10, +1, and -1 from any given number. A rug of this size will also allow my students to use their bodies to demonstrate their number sense understanding by standing or hopping on the numerals on the rug.
